Mexico is undergoing significant political and social changes as it moves to become a full-fledged democratic country.

As a nation in transition it is important that the Mexico’s media undergoes similar improvements.

The Center for Journalism and Public Ethics (Cepet) is a non-profit, non-partisan organization with a mission to promote an independent, investigative and public interest journalism to contribute to a more informed society.

Cepet is today the most respected journalism organization in Mexico with members across the country, including editors, reporters, columnists, writers, students and academics, from both small and large media.

Cepet´s objetives include:

. Training programs. Workshops, seminars and conferences throughout the country.

. Promoting freedom of expression.

· Investigations. The Center will undertake and fund unique high impact investigations.

. Transparency projects.

. Monitoring of public spending.

The Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas, based at the University of Texas in Austin, has supported Cepet`s training programt since its foundation in September, 2003 and through 2004. However, Cepet has no administrative funds and functions only with volunteer work.

Cepet is based in San Miguel de Allende in the central Mexican state of Guanajuato.
